Elk Lake is one of the premier lakes in the Midwest. Torch gets all of the press, but ask the locals and most say they prefer Elk Lake for its quietness and charm. There are 12 sq. miles of beautiful aqua blue water to explore on Elk Lake. If that is not enough, you can head up the chain of lakes to Skegemog, Torch, Clam, or Bellaire Lake. This home is located on the southern shore of the lake. The entire lake bottom is sandy and the water gradually drops off on the southern end. You can walk out about 100 yards before the water is over your head. One of the better panfishing spots on the lake is only about 150 yds from the dock. The lakeside deck is covered and runs along most of the length of the house. A gas grill is adjacent to the deck. There is a picnic table and chairs for everyone to escape from the sun if need be. A large fire pit is lakeside to relax at during the evening and take in all of the stars. The home was renovated in 2006 and now has 6 well appointed bedrooms, 3.5 baths, a dining room, and two living areas. The lower level features a master suite that looks out onto the lake and a kitchen with granite countertops and a commercial Jenn Air Range. The dining room off the kitchen seats 8. Our wonderful vacation home is on 135 feet of gorgeous Elk Lake. It is located on the dead end of a small private road and heavily landscaped to create maximum privacy. We have a small sandy beach perfect for the kids, spectacular swimming off the dock, the best sunsets, and what we feel is the perfect location. We are 6 miles from the cute village of Elk Rapids on Lake Michigan, 23 miles from the Traverse City Airport, and just over an hour to exploring the Sleeping Bear National Lakeshore to the west, and Charlevoix/Petosky/Harbor Springs attractions to the north. Our cottage is uniquely positioned just yards from the water. We love the close proximity of the shore, dock and hoist to our kitchen and deck as well as the sound of the water at night from our bedroom. As our photos show our ground floor living space is completely open between our large family, kitchen and dining areas. This has facilitated so many great memories with everyone of all ages congregating in the same area whether playing games, watching tv/movies, listening to music, cooking or dining..On cooler evenings the fireplace and it's wood burning insert make ir all cozy. We also have a portable brass firepit for evenings on the beach for marshmallows or smores. Our ground floor master bedroom is located off the kitchen with windows looking out the beach and lake. It has a queen bed with a large walk in closet. It also has an oversized bathroom and shower which accommodated the first owners wife's' disabilities. Sliders out the side lead to a covered grilling area between our house and the garage. This makes easy access between the kitchen and the gas grill and/or Big Green Egg smoker. The second floor holds three bedrooms. At the top of the stairs is a large bedroom overlooking the lake that sleeps four with two twins and trundle beds beneath. It has it's own ensuite full bath. Across the hall is a nice bedroom with a queen size bed. It shares a full bath off the hallway with the fourth bedroom that is over the garage at the end of the hallway. It is a very large room with four twins and sitting area.

The back yard is huge and would be ideal for yard games and simply chasing your kids and grandkids around. The deck is large off of the back of the home and has a table and chairs, along with loungers for....well, lounging. A gas grill is provided for outdoor cooking and frying up the "daily catch". The yard is partially shaded and partially sunny. The boat house located by the lake has kayaks, a row boat for fishing as well as a Sunfish sailboat to use; there are multiple sizes of life jackets as well as a nice variety of water toys. The Boat House is where it's all at! Down by the lake you'll have a fire ring for late night fires, and during the day you'll have a nice 50 foot private dock, with a ladder, to swim off of and launch your watercraft. Elk Lake IS an all sports lake and is also a part of the well known "Chain of Lakes", so bring your boat and go explore the other lakes and charming towns that surround you in Northern Michigan. Bathrooms: each bathroom comes with towels and are supplied with an initial 3 rolls of toilet paper. After that, you will need to provide your own. When leaving out of the marina by boat head East by slightly Southeast. Head straight for the drop off and then turn south to head out down Elk Lake. Use the willow tree as your line to go east and come back west to the marina. Elk lake is a wonderful lake for boating. It is a large lake and connects to other lakes. You can boat through the famous Chain-of-Lakes with over 30 miles of navigable waters featuring Torch Lake (the 'sand bar'), Lake Skegemog, Clam Lake, and Lake Bellaire. Torch Lake is rated as one of the most beautiful fresh water lakes in North America. A Boater's Paradise is just steps away!

Charlevoix is 37 miles to the north. There are many wineries, breweries, golf courses, festivals, lakes and sightseeing in Northwest Michigan to enjoy while using Tonda cabin as a home base. The Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore area is within 60 miles. Cherry Capital airport is 28 miles away.

White Birch Lodge is a resort for families, the family atmosphere of the grounds is what brings guests back each year. If you are a guest in this accommodation expect to see families out and about on the grounds enjoying the lake (especially in the summer and fall). Please respect our quiet hours. Indecent behavior will not be tolerated. A short bike ride, walk or drive will take you into charming Downtown Elk Rapids. Elk Rapids is a quiet town, busier in the summer but overall the area is very tranquil and relaxing. Elk Rapids is centrally located about 20 miles north of Traverse City and 30 miles south of Charlevoix. Driving is the best way to get around. If you are wanting to use a taxi service, make reservations for your ride before you travel. Do not rely on ride sharing services in the Elk Rapids Area, Uber and Lyft active in Traverse City.

Other great trips by water include Elk Rapids, a great place for shopping and restaurants, or White Water Park, a public area directly across the lake that maintains a small stretch of beach, a playground, volley ball pit and a boat launch. Being on the eastern shore means we have some of the most beautiful sunsets in Northern Michigan, so remember to bring a camera! We are only 7 minutes from Turtle Creek Casino, 20 minutes to Traverse City, and 30 minutes from the vineyards on Old Mission Penninsula.

The fishing on Skegemog is also much more accessible with shallower water and tremendous populations of bass, perch, pike and world class musky. Skegemog Point road is a breathtaking tree lined lane extending north directly from M-72 providing very quick access to Traverse City and downstate. Because the road terminates at the water, there is no through traffic providing a great atmosphere for morning walks.

Last year we stopped making up beds, to limit exposure. We are continuing that process. Sheets will be folded on each bed for your use. Make up the beds you want to use. Nice shallow swimming area for kids. We have a stone break wall, but there is a hard sandy lake bottom from the dock steps. The large swim-raft is about 100’ beyond the end of the dock. Great for kids and adults. Off street parking for all! We have a large driveway with parking for up to eight cars and room for trailers. Empty trailers may park on the grass. This is a waterfront home with all the benefits of nature, including mosquitoes, come prepared to enjoy the outdoors!

This 1890 farmhouse is located 2 blocks from downtown Elk Rapids. Walking distance to some of the most beautiful beaches in Northern Michigan, shopping, restaurants, Short's Brewery, and a single screen movie theater. The kitchen is fully stocked and has all new appliances. The main level has a living room with a 60" flat screen, 8 chair custom craftsmen farm table, and a new washer and dryer with built in 6 person cubbie area. Wireless internet and cable available. On the main level, there is a large master bedroom, with a queen bed, and a second bedroom with two twin beds Nearby, a bathroom with a tub shower. In the living room, is a full size sofa sleeper. The second level of the home is not available for rent. There is a very large, private partly fenced backyard with an outdoor grill, picnic table, fire pit and playset to enjoy. Downtown Traverse City and Old Mission Peninsula is 20 minutes away. Charlevoix is 30 minutes away. Elk Rapids beaches and the downtown area are considered the hidden gem of the north. Our home was built in 1890 and though updated, still maintains most of its original charm. This will be the first time that this property will be available for rent and we are looking to only rent out the main level that sleeps 6. . This historic home on the west side of the Village of Elk Rapids! Prime location just two blocks from gorgeous sandy beach, playground, shops, restaurants, movie theater, and more! The spacious main floor offers a large dining room, living area, bedroom, one half bath and one bath with a shower, and a huge mudroom in the back of the home for backpacks, beach gear, or winter items. A large enclosed porch offers additional space for lounging or games. Upper level master suite includes a bath with jetted tub and a walk in closet/dressing room. The fenced back yard contains a large shaded deck and a fire pit for summer nights.

Our first floor has a fully open floor plan with an living room with a TV (w/ available Apple TV/Fire Stick to log into) entry way, dining area, kitchen, 1/2 bath and spacious mudroom with attached laundry. Off of the kitchen is the deck with gas grill (the hot tub is not filled and not for rental use) and as you walk into the backyard you take a flagstone pathway to our patio ready for breakfasts, lunches or dinners outside under the shade of a large maple tree. Back in the house, off of the entry way you enter the "Michigan" den with a queen sleeper sofa couch, cable TV, and office desks along with book cases complete with books for your casual reading. Off of the office we have the only 1st floor bedroom with a queen bed and private 3/4 bath. The second floor stairwell ends at the smallest bedroom, our youngest daughter's, where you will find a single bed. The next room is larger, our eldest daughter's, and includes a double and single bed. The only bathroom on the second floor (a full bath) is newly remodeled. The last room is our master bedroom with a queen bed. The driveway includes parking (3, maybe 4 cars max). We ask that you do not park on the side lawn. The garage is not for renter use. The backyard includes a tree house but we ask that you allow small children to use it with supervision as the stairs are steep. We have a bin of outdoor toys to use in the backyard, too. We DO NOT have central air conditioning. We do have two heat pump/AC wall units on the main floor and in the upstairs master. The downstairs is sufficiently cooled and the upstairs remains comfortable if all doors to bedrooms are kept open during cooling times. Our home is also NOT toddler friendly, due to the steep staircase and the older railing upstairs. The bars along the stairwell are wide enough apart to allow a small child to slip through and fall down the stairs. For this reason, we are NOT a good home for toddlers or crawling infants.

Birch Lake is a warm sandy bottom like between Grand Traverse Bay and Elk Lake 4 miles north of Elk Rapids. The beach is ideal for children. This 3 bedroom home has a master bedroom/bath with king bed. Guest bedroom with queen bed. Bunk room with 2 bunk beds (sleeps 4) and a queen hide-a-bed in the living room. The master bath has a tub and has laundry. The second bath has a shower. There is a fireplace in the living room. The kitchen is fully equipped including a dishwasher, microwave, gas stove, refrigerator with ice maker, and everything you need for cooking. There is a picnic table, fire ring, rowboat, kayaks, beach furniture. Currently we have June 8-22, Aug 10-17 and Aug 29-Sept 2 available. We rent by the week Saturday to Saturday.

Stroll through the town and meander down to the marina to get breath-taking views of the Grand Traverse Bay and all the docked boats. Best of all, pack your beach gear and head to the beach located in Memorial Park. Kids love this white sand beach, including the swimming alcove off to the side, as well as the jungle gyms, swings, basketball and tennis courts. Elk Rapids is the ideal family vacation spot because it is a quiet, low-key village making it easy to relax and unwind. To get more of an urban atmosphere, Traverse City is only 20-30 minutes away. Travel up Mission Point to all the wineries for a fun afternoon. Charlevoix is a half an hour drive, Petosky approximately 45 minutes, Harbor Springs an hour, Sleeping Bear Sand Dunes about an hour. Although summer is the most popular season to travel to northern MI, all seasons offer a variety of fun experiences, from fall color tours and activities, ski trips and more!

The town is a wonderful close community, and matches your imagination of small town living. Wake up and go for a jog or bike ride and stop at the local coffee shop and bakery. Restaurants range from sophisticated to casual home cooking. The town is completely surrounded by water with the East Bay of Lake Michigan along the west side of town and Elk Lake to the east. You can travel by boat from Elk Lake to Torch Lake, known as the Caribbean of the North (National Geographic.) Elk Rapids is known for festivals and art fairs, and during the summer on Wednesday nights, the streets are closed for food and entertainment. This area is an ideal spot to hunt for morel mushrooms in the spring, enjoy the beaches in the summer, do color tours in the fall and ski in the winter. The frontage is all sand and shallow for a long ways out. Cottage is close to the city of Elk Rapids to enjoy shopping, dining and Lake Michigan beaches.
